THIS DEVIANT LIFE
a project that I created in 2022 during the lockdown. As I reflected on my own experiences during this strange time, I became interested in exploring the situational weirdness that we all experience but rarely act upon. With this project, I aimed to give voice to these situations and present them in a refreshing and relatable manner.
To bring this vision to life, I took myself as the subject and created a series of frame-by-frame linear sequential drawings. My goal was to challenge the conventional notions of normality and acceptability through a combination of humour and satire.
The name "This Deviant Life" is significant to me because it represents my desire to deviate from what is considered "normal" and instead embrace the unique and unconventional aspects of life. In doing so, I hoped to inspire others to see the beauty in being different.
This project will make you laugh, think, and maybe even challenge your own ideas of what is acceptable.
Animation / Drawings
This animation is a playful and surreal exploration of the unexpected twists and turns that life can take. As I take a sip from a glass bottle, I am suddenly sucked inside and the bottle shatters on the ground.
As the bottle shatters and the animation loops, we are reminded of the words of the great surrealist Salvador Dali: "Surrealism is destructive, but it destroys only what it considers to be shackles limiting our vision."

As I lean back in my chair with closed eyes, lost in thought, my face, hands, and legs are visible while the rest of my body and the chair is hidden from view in my drawings. The chair gently sways back and forth, as if echoing the movement of my mind as I contemplate and introspect. This loop captures the essence of "This Deviant Life," evoking a sense of mystery, otherworldliness, and nonconformity that is characteristic of the series.

the animation loop portrays a mysterious figure walking with purpose, with only their face mask and shoes visible. The anonymity of the figure, combined with the continuous movement in a singular direction, creates a sense of intrigue and curiosity, echoing the unconventional and nonconformist themes often explored in the series. The figure's determination and singular focus on their path forward speaks to the courage and resilience required to venture outside of societal norms and expectations.
